cant sleep again..

seeing my 'baby' cousins again today was nice. except 10 and 11 mean they're no longer babies, as im constantly reminded.
swimming with karyn was nice :) i'd almost forgotten how she can keep talking for ages and how she knows the most random things for a 10 yr old. like what a 30 sided polygon is called. a rosycosydododecahedron. apparently. haha and i was rather impressed until i decided to check it out for myself. reality is much less interesting. it's just a triacontagon:(
also, how she has the most amazing memory. she remembers everyone's bdaes and ages in a way i never can. man, she even knows im graduating in 2011! i dont even rmb that myself most of the time.

we remembered tiktikitembonosarembocharibariruchipipperipembo. the boy with the longest name (the best childrens book second only to the very hungry caterpillar) and are clearly still the 2 who appreciate it the most!

and they're all grown up!! im so proud tho slightly sad. just a bit.

yesterday was really sunny and yummy
picnic with doh and vivien
played volleyball with doh and ppl. was fun and im nicely aching now.
we also helped out with face painting for kids.. i think i would quite like to do that for a living..
just paint kids' faces. it's so cute.
i painted a vampire and a carnival mask and a princess and some hearts and attempted a dolphin. that was quite a disaster but the kids were so cute.
i think ju did that for nicole's bdae once. nice

that's 4 sunny days ive had this week! 5 i guess if you count the day i stayed in bed the whole day and watched anime/topgear. many reasons to be happy!
also, randomly, i learnt to play mahjong from nonchinese ppl. so funny! my substandard mahjong skills. and they play with racks.. like scrabble.

and i got a tv today.. ka'll be happy she can watch tour de france properly instead of on my laptop which keeps cutting off.

i think i'll be good and do some filing and open some bills and bank statements before i fly off. and wash some clothes.

also..today i went shopping .. hahaha

first chinese new year away from homee but i had suchagood time cos MSCHAN came to visiT! altho things seemed rocky at first when i woke up on friday morning horribly sick. but that soon came to pass. thankyou friends for taking care of meee :] esp for making lunch for me [xiinnyiii] and for your oranges and vit c [nurulll!;] and xin and kenny for picking up shona for me thank you!

sat was sucha beautiful morning.. we went up arthurs seat! haha bright and sunny, looked like summerrr! chan cannot hear my alarmm

then we showered and went out to my campus/princes street/royal mile and at this point i have no pictures cos ms smart dint bring her camera haha we went to the toy museum and coloured and walked around ate friedmarsbars haha then sat down for hot chocolate. how absolutely wonderfully sinful. thenn.. it was time for dinneR! yummy chi food. duck and all. our most happening table. zoujimima and pennying and drinking goggles plus good conversation and company. mmm. by the time we finished dinner it was midnite no less haha

i dont know how we survived on so little sleep really woman. but this was in the morning before going to church. i made her pack up cos we were going shopping after church and i was ahem afraid we would miss the train hahaha!
somewhere near church waiting at the bus stop. look at the cute little thing all wrapped up complete with earmuffs and a funny face haha!
anddd.. jimmy chungS! which noone will go with me anymore and everyone criticises but ms chan appreciates my love for msg and all things horribly unhealthy. haha so off we went stuffing ourselves. that was only dessert. half of it :]

sorry i havent been updating about my lifee here.. been busy with school and everything.. trying to be a good student this term:] anyway. it snowed last nite. like really properly snowed! i was so excited i made jasmine who was on her way back to bed walk yunyi and i out haha cos yunyi was going for prayer meeting and i was going for netball. and as bayanne and i were walking back at midnite from the mini chocolate party it snowed again! it was so pretty it was like the movies. the streets were empty. it was quiet the pavements were white the street lamps were dim and warm and it was snowing!:] haha it was so uncanny cos just that morning i was saying to her, oh its so cold it should snow soon and she was like, no it;s been so sunny the weather's probably just going to get warmer and i was crusHEDd but it snowed that nite!!! haha and this morning and everything was white when i woke up this morning so finally some pictures worth putting up:]

so that was. christmas eve dinner with my cousins:]
and now. for my favourite christmas story.

It was terribly cold and nearly dark on the last evening of the old year, and the snow was falling fast. In the cold and the darkness, a poor little girl, with bare head and naked feet, roamed through the streets. It is true she had on a pair of slippers when she left home, but they were not of much use. They were very large, so large, indeed, that they had belonged to her mother, and the poor little creature had lost them in running across the street to avoid two carriages that were rolling along at a terrible rate. One of the slippers she could not find, and a boy seized upon the other and ran away with it, saying that he could use it as a cradle, when he had children of his own. So the little girl went on with her little naked feet, which were quite red and blue with the cold. In an old apron she carried a number of matches, and had a bundle of them in her hands. No one had bought anything of her the whole day, nor had anyone given her even a penny. Shivering with cold and hunger, she crept along; poor little child, she looked the picture of misery. The snowflakes fell on her long, fair hair, which hung in curls on her shoulders, but she regarded them not. Lights were shining from every window, and there was a savoury smell of roast goose, for it was New-year's eve—yes, she remembered that. In a corner, between two houses, one of which projected beyond the other, she sank down and huddled herself together. She had drawn her little feet under her, but she could not keep off the cold; and she dared not go home, for she had sold no matches, and could not take home even a penny of money. Her father would certainly beat her; besides, it was almost as cold at home as here, for they had only the roof to cover them, through which the wind howled, although the largest holes had been stopped up with straw and rags. Her little hands were almost frozen with the cold. Ah! perhaps a burning match might be some good, if she could draw it from the bundle and strike it against the wall, just to warm her fingers. She drew one out—“scratch!” how it sputtered as it burnt! It gave a warm, bright light, like a little candle, as she held her hand over it. It was really a wonderful light. It seemed to the little girl that she was sitting by a large iron stove, with polished brass feet and a brass ornament. How the fire burned! and seemed so beautifully warm that the child stretched out her feet as if to warm them, when, lo! the flame of the match went out, the stove vanished, and she had only the remains of the half-burnt match in her hand. She rubbed another match on the wall. It burst into a flame, and where its light fell upon the wall it became as transparent as a veil, and she could see into the room. The table was covered with a snowy white table-cloth, on which stood a splendid dinner service, and a steaming roast goose, stuffed with apples and dried plums. And what was still more wonderful, the goose jumped down from the dish and waddled across the floor, with a knife and fork in its breast, to the little girl. Then the match went out, and there remained nothing but the thick, damp, cold wall before her. She lighted another match, and then she found herself sitting under a beautiful Christmas-tree. It was larger and more beautifully decorated than the one which she had seen through the glass door at the rich merchant's. Thousands of tapers were burning upon the green branches, and coloured pictures, like those she had seen in the show-windows, looked down upon it all. The little one stretched out her hand towards them, and the match went out. The Christmas lights rose higher and higher, till they looked to her like the stars in the sky. Then she saw a star fall, leaving behind it a bright streak of fire. “Someone is dying,” thought the little girl, for her old grandmother, the only one who had ever loved her, and who was now dead, had told her that when a star falls, a soul was going up to God. She again rubbed a match on the wall, and the light shone round her; in the brightness stood her old grandmother, clear and shining, yet mild and loving in her appearance. “Grandmother,” cried the little one, “O take me with you; I know you will go away when the match burns out; you will vanish like the warm stove, the roast goose, and the large, glorious Christmas-tree.” And she made haste to light the whole bundle of matches, for she wished to keep her grandmother there. And the matches glowed with a light that was brighter than the noon-day, and her grandmother had never appeared so large or so beautiful. She took the little girl in her arms, and they both flew upwards in brightness and joy far above the earth, where there was neither cold nor hunger nor pain, for they were with God. In the dawn of morning there lay the poor little one, with pale cheeks and smiling mouth, leaning against the wall; she had been frozen to death on the last evening of the year; and the New-year's sun rose and shone upon a little corpse! The child still sat, in the stiffness of death, holding the matches in her hand, one bundle of which was burnt. “She tried to warm herself,” said some. No one imagined what beautiful things she had seen, nor into what glory she had entered with her grandmother, on New-year's day.

to remind myself to appreciate my happy christmases. i always feel more evil during christmas. for some reason.
but its not just the presents or the food or the stories.

haha its kinda small but if you look hard enough, there're instructions on how to use chopsticks haha. so cute rite?

the moment we walked in we were like mmmmm... this smells

like real chinese food haha.

directly opposite the chinese restaurant.
haha.. jasmine's dad said now we know where all the chinese food comes from-- the animals that dont make it :] hehe..

and the gluttons!! dim sum was lovely and jasmine's parents were really nice. they let yoch and i do all the ordering! and so is her house haha. and glasgow water is ultra clean. it was a nice daytrip

but that wasn't the end of our exciting day!! it was guy fawkes nite!! haha.. jasmine's dad drove us back and we reached edinburgh at around 6. it was pitch black by then. grabbed dinner and headed to arthur's seat to see fireworks!!

all wrapped up haha. and the fireworks were really nice altho it was so dark we lost each other a few times. but i couldnt get any pictures :s only nice videos.. and theN!! more drama haha.. smart people started shooting fireworks horizontally and the dry bushes caught fire! as you can see. the fire was huge. but quite far away so no panic or stampede but there were 5 fire engines. haha so after awhile we left

haha mistake. we left and decided against watching v for vendetta in favour of supper [ivoted with 2hands] haha.. guess what we had? fried mars baR!! haha i've been wanting to eat it for super long now. haha.. yummY! haha but i cant show you the super embarrassing picture of me and huiqi cos its far too embarrassing haha between 2 of us we finished 3 marsbars and everyone else shared. haha.. everyone ended up waiting for the 2 of us to finish eating haha.. eviL! they didnt bother to stop us at all. haha i realise when it comes to food it's always me and huiqi. on halloween we were the ones staring longingly at the caramel /chocolate coated apples [which i got for free at breakfast the next day :]:] at kenny's cookout we were the ones who happily polished off the entire tub of chunkymonkey after fighting with him for it [and winning of course]. haha we finished our fried mars bars with no difficulty [and could eat more actually] and after that on the way home when people started talking about the chocolate buffet at fullerton haha we were the only ones who had tried it before. hahha my fellow glutton indeed :]

so tired so tired. i got back and crashed. and today was a terrible day. so sleepy. and anat pract was horrible. if i didnt take so long to assimilate everything it would have been alot more satisfying.

i will do my work so i can nap before i go out again later haha goodnitey!

time passes really fast.
and the days are getting shorter too.
and its getting colder and colder and colder. but its still nice.
more or less.
evening jogs are refreshing as i realised with jing. the worst part of jogging downhill is realising halfway down that you'll have to jog up on the return route again.
the best part is passing sainsbury's and the silliest mistake is forgetting to bring money.

today was pretty fun. not that i did very much. went for dinner with new friends who throw oranges into people's windows and fight to get into the lifts and tie people up for fun. haha that just sounded completely wrong but its out of context anyway. oh well. it was pretty hilarious.
and tmrw's kenny's cookout :]:] the girls are whipping up some lovely [ihope] dishes haha and xinyi and i have our secret dish which im praying very hard turns out. haha it shall remain a secret till it turns out well or it will remain a secret forever haha.
and now it's 2 and i hafta wake up at 7 to play tennis

hello everybody! i'm yunyi! i'm malaysian but jo has made me an honorary singaporean. =) okay lah dowan to talk about me anymore...i'm going to talk about jo! she's currently indulging in chocolate biscuits...naughty girl. she tries so hard to abstain...even gave away the biscuits to xinyi...but upon her request, xinyi brought down the biscuits to her room, and now she's eating and eating and eating...hahaha jo, in case you didn't know, i'm trying to make you feel guilty. =)

hiii i'm xinyi! i'm singaporean but sometimes i feel like a malaysian cos there are so many malaysians here. and did i mention that ALL of them are like medics? i love chocolates =) but for some reason, i'm glad jo is finishing my stock of chocolates! hehe. she's so slim. i'm jealouss. haha =) (yunyi wants to say she's jealous too) but we all eat the chocolates anw =) hehe.

this is the pretty city that is edinburgh. it is extremely pretty in the evening. except when it is misty. then it is extremely.. whats the word. enimagtic? not really.. haha still nice but different.

this was hilarious.. 2 ppl dressed up in raspberries. to promote the new absolute rasperry flavour. they went around kachaoing everyone in potterow. and then occassionally they'd start punching each other. it's supposed to be funny. fruit punch!! -_-

when you miss a bus. when you're late for work. when you end up having to take the long way cos of something annoying. when things dont work out as planned.. God has a plan. and right here right now is exactly where you're supposed to be.
and then i feel extremely excited that i have something better waiting for me.

haha. today was a really grey day. i woke up in the morning before the alarm rang. for the first time and thought it was really early cos it was still dark. and then i looked at my phone and it was only 10 min more to when i usually wake. days are getting shorter alreAdy :[ bummer.
but i played tennis again. it was good :] haha in the drizzle. i must rmb to bring my camera out cos the same place looks different everyday. and i used to say the weather was unpredictable in singapore haha.. ppl who say that should come here.
like one day i can walk to school and be perspiring when i reach and another [like today] i can have my jacket on and still be cold.. and it's cool cos you breathe (out) smoke haha cheap thrills i know.

today today today was my first anat pract
and i loved it :]
not so much the seeing the cadevers part.. but learning about the bones. haha yoch said i should go do orthopaedics.. but i didnt particularly feel i wanted to do ortho during my attachment :s. anyway..
bones.
hahaha the most fun part was learning how to differentiate the right and left sides. haha so cool. now i can tell a right patella from a left one. cheap thrills right.. i bet the nus ppl can do it with their eyes closed.. but here we are starved of anatomy so bear with me :]
and i couldnt smell the formalin cos i had a blocked nose. so i guess that was kinda a blessing in disguise.
we assembled a skeleton :] cool stuff.
i liked how there was no lesson at all and all the anatomists just stood around waiting for ppl to ask them stuff but when you did ask them they had so much to share. it was really interesting :] im glad now that i have a skeleton waiting at homeee when i go back in december.. haha wish i had it with me.. i have a great urge to look and feel bones again. oh dear this is so strange.
hafta do some readings before i go to sleep. classes start at e normal time tmrw :s
